Doug Glover has been part of Gulf Harbour's clubhouse renovation journey from the beginning.
As a member of the Construction Committee, he's witnessed firsthand how a community can rally around a shared vision and what it takes to bring that vision to life.
The decision to renovate emerged from careful planning, thoughtful presentations, and member enthusiasm.
"The Gulf Harbour membership and the Board decided the clubhouse renovation was the necessary next step in the club’s $30 million long-term capital improvement plan,” Doug explains, “having recently completed a new Wellness Center, a total golf course renovation and a new tennis complex." Working with Peacock + Lewis as architects, the team came up with renderings that captured what was possible and aligned with the membership’s feedback.
For members who've enjoyed Gulf Harbour since the mid-90s, the renovation represents the natural evolution of a club they already love. "As any building over a period of time, it would need a renovation," Doug says simply. "All the people that talk to me have told me how excited they are about it."
For Doug, the waterside experience stands out.
"The member experience will be overwhelmingly improved and is highly anticipated," he says. "You'll be able to have an area in the lower level that actually provides you a more dramatic dining experience by the waterside area of the club and more breathtaking views of our marina."
The renovation creates distinct spaces that enhance how members enjoy the club.
"There will be a pool section and then you have an interior/exterior dining section and bar," Doug explains. The design separates these areas thoughtfully, giving members options for how and where within the club they want to spend their time.
The renovation amplifies what members already love about Gulf Harbour.
Doug points to the views as a defining feature. "Whether you're upstairs or downstairs, it will be a unique experience," he says as it brings the waterfront into sharper focus.
The renovation enhances these natural advantages. "Having a new renovation to any club is exciting, but our views are extraordinary," he says.
The waterside location creates opportunities for members to connect with the environment in ways few clubs can offer. Floor-to-ceiling views, thoughtfully designed spaces, and the integration of indoor and outdoor areas all work together to maximize what makes Gulf Harbour special.
"Any project that goes on has challenges," Doug acknowledges. "There are always processes you need to work through to meet code requirements and to identify and resolve any unforeseen conditions." But those challenges become manageable with the right team in place.
Doug always returns to one theme: community. "The club and the members and the teams, we’re all a community, and they're what make Gulf Harbour special," he reflects.
And it's what will make the finished clubhouse a place where relationships deepen and memories are made.
Doug and his fellow committee members are stewarding a vision that belongs to every member. And when the renovation is complete, that shared ownership will make the accomplishment that much sweeter.
