Gulf Harbour's Tennis Program: A Closer Look

Written by Gulf Harbour | June 11, 2026

Not every tennis program is built the same way. Court surfaces, staff depth, league structures, and social connections vary from club to club. You should know what you’re getting into before committing to one.

For players considering clubs in Southwest Florida, Gulf Harbour’s tennis program stands apart. Here’s what makes it different, and how it holds up when you look closely.

Courts That Were Built to Be Played On

Clay court tennis rewards patience and strategy over power. The surface slows the game down, rallies run longer, and the right court conditions change how the game feels. Gulf Harbour's eight Hydro-Grid courts are built specifically for that kind of play — subsurface irrigation keeps conditions consistent through Southwest Florida's heat and humidity, so the surface plays the same way in October as it does in March.

All eight courts are lit for evening play, and the pavilion sits alongside them for post-match time with teammates. Two ball machines are on site, with viewing areas and seating nearby.

The Staff Behind the Program

Gulf Harbour's four USPTA-certified professionals, including two at the Elite level, run programming seven days a week across a range of formats: cardio tennis, beginner and advanced clinics, team sessions, and private or semi-private lessons.

Players new to the Lee County rating system get evaluated and placed directly by the staff, so there's no guessing about where you fit.

How It Compares

Here’s a look at Gulf Harbour’s program against what players typically find at comparable private clubs in Southwest Florida.

The Leagues Are Where It Comes Together

Gulf Harbour runs 26 active teams each season (15 women's and 11 men's) competing in the Lee County leagues from October through March. Teams play interclub matches against other Southwest Florida clubs, and members can join up to two teams, giving flexibility to compete at different levels or in different formats during the same season.

Club Championships in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles run during the season alongside Pro League and Pro-Am events. After matches, teams gather at the Waterside Grille. The rhythm of a season — the familiar faces, post-match lunch, the team dynamic that builds over months — tends to be what members point to when they talk about why the program works.

Players who prefer instruction or casual group play over league competition have options too. With staff on site daily, there's always a way into the program at whatever level makes sense.

A tennis program is only as good as the experience it creates around the sport, on the court and after. Gulf Harbour's program is built with that in mind.
